She started out studying veterinary medicine in college, but after taking a job as a gardener Pamela Dabah discovered her green thumb. "I felt like I found my calling," says the Montreal native, who switched gears to study horticulture and plant physiology.
Dabah moved to the U.S. in 1985 and later became the director of horticulture at the New York City Parks Department. While there, she designed the outdoor area of the Tisch Children's Zoo in Central Park, among "some other pretty awesome projects," she says.
The gardening guru moved to Morristown in 1988, where she still resides with her husband and three children. In 2003, she started her own venture, Dabah Landscape Designs, a New Jersey board-certified and fully-insured landscaping company. Since then, she's been involved in myriad projects that span "everything from penthouse patios in New York City to estates out here in Jersey," says Dabah. The company provides garden planning, landscaping, water feature installation, and tree work. Whether a customer desires a romantic English garden or needs a drainage problem fixed, Dabah and her five employees meet the specific needs. "I want their end product to be something they are so excited about and proud of," she says. - Mallory Gelert.
